This one is called……

Alas, this August in Puerto Vallarta had us singing the blues..............the Green Water Blues.  Checking back to the August 2001 report we saw the vast number of giant Yellow fin Tuna, the Marlin, Sails, Wahoo and Dorado that were landed.  Well, it was certainly not the case in August 2002, the fishing was tough and anything bigger than bait was cause for celebration.  There were a number of Sailfish hooked as well as Dorado and some Roosterfish but the big game that we had awaited expectantly were few and far between.  Where were they this year?  We cannot blame the long liners and gill-netters because, thankfully, they have been banned from this area. One local expert suggested that the high temperature of the ocean and the lack of significant rainfall might be a factor.  So, in fact, the month of August 2002 can only be understood by experienced fishermen who realize that conditions are so crucial and when they are not ideal one spends considerably more time fishing rather than catching.  In the winter months when the fishing is mediocre, we can always spot a Humpback Whale or two to entertain our anglers.  But in August, everyone has been led to believe that 400-pound tuna practically leap into the boats, the locals as well, so it was a disappointing month in general.  On a positive note, the big game had not been over fished and our fall charters should find a good population ready to be hooked.

Last Minute Update:

At the end of August a World Record Wahoo was landed by an angler fishing aboard the Nuevo Vallarta boat, the ESCAPE.  No photos or names yet but we have to congratulate Captain Toby on a great job.  We believe this magnificent fish was around the 200 lb mark.

Our fishing report is brief this month, we had a baby and broke our scanner so we apologize to those of you who are left out.  Hope you enjoy 'The Blues'.
